Sumi Nadarajah Elected as the 19th President of APTMA.
FRKelly are delighted to share the news of Sumi Nadarajah’s appointment as the 19th President of the Association of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys (APTMA) as of March 2026.
Standing on the shoulders of giants, Sumi Nadarajah continues the honourable APTMA Presidency legacy following on from her FRKelly predecessors such as Peter Kelly (1983-1986), Gerry Kinsella (1994-1997), Niamh Hall (2013-2015), and Shane Smyth (2021-2023). While their impact and contributions are highly valued to the Association, Sumi will continue to build on the foundations set before her with professionalism, enthusiasm, and an unwavering force of determination to see the continued success of APTMA.
As an active member of the Association, Sumi’s contributions throughout the years have been instrumental for the Association. Sumi chaired the Copyright & Designs Committee APTMA from 2015 to 2017, she tutors with the APTMA Education Committee, and was later elected as the Treasurer of the Association. Sumi’s accomplishments within the role of treasurer solidified her elevation to the position of President, a challenge that Sumi will undoubtedly excel in, drawing on the professionalism that she has honed through her craft for many years both professionally and personally. Without compromising the traditional ethos of the Association, Sumi brings an international, independent element providing a new and modern approach to the role of President. This election is a culmination of her exceptional work as a Trade Mark Attorney and also, her devotion to the field of Intellectual Property.
Sumi’s Presidential term will be an exciting new chapter, not just for Sumi but for every attorney in the Intellectual Property field given her collaborative nature and exceptional reputation built thus far!
Congratulations Sumi Nadarajah on your Presidency, we look forward to celebrating your new achievements within this role with you!
