Con is a European, Irish and UK Patent Attorney, a European Trade Mark and Design Attorney and an Irish Trade Mark Agent. Con has been in practice since 2013 and joined FRKelly in 2020. Con has considerable experience in patent application drafting and prosecution, and handling contentious matters of patent law, including representing clients before the European Patent Office Opposition Division and Boards of Appeal. Con has experience filing and prosecuting supplementary protection certificates (SPCs), and representing clients in SPC hearings before the Intellectual Property Office of Ireland.
Con works in several practice areas, specialising in particular in the chemical, materials and pharmaceutical fields, with extensive experience representing multinational companies in the building materials sector and in the adhesives sector. Con also works with Universities, SMEs and start-ups and he assists clients to develop and implement bespoke IP strategies tailored to their particular commercial requirements.
Con completed his PhD in synthetic organic chemistry at Trinity College Dublin where he developed novel methodology for the synthesis of sugars, thiosugars and thiophenes. Thereafter, Con undertook postdoctoral work at Trinity developing enzyme mimic systems, and subsequently at the University of Cambridge where his work focused on the synthesis of small molecule modulators of protein-protein interactions, as potential cancer therapeutics.
