David is a qualified European Patent Attorney and a Chartered UK Patent Attorney. He has an honours BEng degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Limerick and a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Manchester. David’s areas of expertise include electronics, software/computer implemented inventions, telecommunications, medical and mechanical devices. He has also worked on a range of technologies relating to augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality, 3D modelling and artificial intelligence.
David has worked in industry, initially as a CAD engineer, and subsequently, as a Patent Counsel for a global corporation. He possesses a strong commercial and pragmatic approach as a result of his time working in industry. As a consequence of this approach and his can-do attitude, David has developed a reputation for leading on many US corporate accounts.
David assists clients with drafting, filing and prosecution of European, PCT, US and UK patent applications. He also represents clients in hearings at the European Patent Office. David works with clients ranging from multinational companies to start-ups and so has experience of a range of different needs, practices and perspectives in relation to the patent system.
