Gearoid is a European patent attorney based in our Belfast office, having joined FRKelly in 2018. His expertise lies in patent drafting and prosecution, particularly related to software inventions, including AI and machine learning. Additionally, he has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to medical devices, optics, environmental and agricultural technology, nanotechnology, semiconductor technology, and telecommunications.
Gearoid earned his Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and his BSc in Physics from Queen Mary University of London. His undergraduate thesis reviewed contemporary techniques in microscopy including contemporary optical setups, image processing algorithms, and the use of quantum dot technology in medical applications. This followed from a funded research placement conducted at Queen Mary University of London. Gearoid is also a recipient of the Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property from Bournemouth University.
