John is a European and Irish Patent Attorney with extensive patent prosecution experience. He graduated with a B. Eng. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Limerick.
John’s areas of expertise include electronics, telecommunications, physics, mechanics, and software/business methods/computer-implemented inventions. He works in the preparation and prosecution of software and electronics related patents for local clients as well as prosecution of such patents for larger multinational clients.
Before joining FRKelly, he worked for two years at another IP firm in Dublin. He also spent three years in a leading Japanese Intellectual Property Law firm in Osaka prosecuting patents in a wide range of jurisdictions, primarily before the U.S., Japanese, European, Chinese, and Korean patent office. He was the team leader of the foreign computer/EE practice team, responsible for managing up to 10 people of various nationalities. He also assisted and prevailed for the clients in a number of contentious prosecution and litigation matters, including oppositions, invalidations, and infringement actions.
John is a member of the Irish Association of Patent and Trademark Attorneys (APTMA), the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI) as well as a student member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).
John travels regularly to Japan for business.
