Before joining FRKelly, Justin worked for 16 years as a Patent Examiner at the European Patent Office in Berlin. He worked in the ICT sector with responsibility for the search and examination of computer implemented inventions. His work included European patent applications, PCT applications and national applications for EPC contracting states.
Justin is very familiar with examination practice at the European Patent Office and can tailor new and pending applications accordingly. In particular, he became a leading authority in determining issues of technicality and was thus chairman of oral proceedings in many cases in which demonstrating technicality was key to demonstrating the presence of an inventive step.
